Cool Info for the new guy

Hey Folks! This is my first time on this website. I need some advice on trucking. It is a complicated (or maybe not) situation that I can't figure out, so here goes:

1. I have my CDL learner's permit and a clean driving record
2. I don't have the money to pay for a trucking school out of pocket, nor can afford to take time off work
3. I have tried companies like Schnieder, Werner, CR England that offer driver training and can't get hired because of a pending misdemeanor charge (nothing domestic, drug or DUI related). They claim the "government" won't let them hire anybody with a pending charge. The charge is going to be dismissed by my ex-wife, but thanks to our wonderful system it can't until the court date ( yet to be assigned because of backlog of cases). My friend has some trucks he leases out and says I can drive for him once I get my full CDL's. I am just at a loss where to go from here. I have no problem "paying my dues" and in fact look forward to learning and gaining experience. I live in Atlanta and know there are tons of companies in this area, but which ones will give me a chance with only a permit?

Thanks for reading and I look forward to your help!

i will answer some of your questions, but NOT in the order you asked them...

first, no company will hire you with a permit only. you don't have any schooling, so they do not/will not take chances on you wrecking thier stuff.

next, a company would BE REQUIRED to have a licensed driver go along with you, and that would cost money, having two people doing the same job, it just ain't gonna happen.

if you don't have the money, then you will HAVE TO go with a big company willing to hire and train you, for a price......you WILL sign contracts, making YOU PAY for the training, if you quit the job before you satisfy the contract...

if you can't take time off from work now......how is anyone going to hire you....???

now, your "pending charges".....until those get resolved, you ain't going anywhere's fast.......

this all "sounds too familiar" to me, as i answered some questions regarding "pending charges" to this original poster here some days ago: http://www.truckingboards.com/trucki...on-advice.html

this isn't "you again" under a different name now, is it....???

because "his ex-wife" and "your ex-wife" both seem to be the same one's you guys are both waiting for to

either "drop the charges or dismiss the charges".........or "reduce the charges" to the misdemeaner charge...?????

well, if not, and as i said to "him" and now to you.....until any court resolutions, you ain't gonna be driving for anyone. you NEED to see what the final outcome of your case is, BEFORE you move on. and by the way, if found guilty, i highly suspect you ain't gonna be hired on with any larger company, as you will now have an "arrest/conviction" record.....

Thanks pro1driver for your reply. I went and read the reply you wrote to the other guy and wish I would have found it before posting. It did indeed answer my questions and would have avoided me looking like a retard (just my opinion, wasn't called that by anybody) for asking the same question already convered. None the less I appreciate your reply and vwaggs also. I will wait until my court matter is resolved until I proceed any further. Thanks and drive safe!

do let us know of your situation when its finished. just look for this thread you have started and re-open it, instead of starting a new one later. it'll keep any conversations "focused" in order.

best of luck to you too.
