Default Moving/shipping company - LTL carriers?

I have heard that I could ship my personal belongings using LTL carrier, which is a cheaper option compared to other moving/shipping company, however, I haven't done this before. So I would like to get some advice from anyone on the recommendations and cautions while dealing with these companies.

I have come across this website - FreighCenter.com, has anyone used their service before? Do I always have to use pallet during shipping? Can I ship my stuffs in boxes instead? What CLASS should I use for clothes and kitchenware?

Thank you very much.

Here at UPS Freight, we use Move America, what happens is: UPS Freight will drop off a 28 foot trailer at your house, your responsible for packing and loading this trailer up, it does not have to be on pallets, it can be in boxes, bags, whatever. People ship furniture, clothing, electronics, anything. The key here is to stack your goods up as high as possible, for maximum utilization as you will be charged for whatever space you use. Your goods are loaded in the nose of the trailer, I've seen these loads come in taking up anywhere from 4 feet of space to 24 feet, the trailers they use are 28 foot long. Then 2 sheets of plywood are put up and load bars hold the plywood up. UPS Freight then comes and picks up your trailer, it is taken to the terminal, loaded with other freight behind yours (keep in mind, your goods are never touched/seen by UPS Freight employees). The trailer is routed to the terminal closest to your new location, the other freight offloaded and the trailer dropped off at your new residence. Here you are responsible for unloading it, and have a time limit to get your goods unloaded (not sure what the limit is), but I'm sure they'll be pretty reasonable with you, as long as your reasonable with them. UPS Freight or Move America will contact you to set up a time to drop the trailer off as well. I know Move America has a website, UPS Freight also serves Smart Move. They are large crates, loaded by you, picked up/dropped off by UPS Freight, sorta like PODS.

But in all, as long as you pack everything good, stack it well, you should have no worries. Depending on far away you are moving, it shouldn't take long as well, a matter of days at most if coast to coast. But keep in mind it is your responsibility to load/unload the trailer, we do not supply a driver to help out.

This is just what UPS Freight does, ABF has a moving service, as well as R&L as stated above, I'm just most familar with what we do at UPS Freight...Any other questions feel free to ask, or I can inquire about specific concerns at my terminal...

ups had it all down but I would also call Yellow Freight will move personal belongings as well but if it was Me moving my stuff I would. Make sure you wrap all furniture with packing blankets and shrink wrap or bubble wrap if it is breakable if I had alot of boxes I would place them on a skid ( Pallet) and shrink wrap them as well insureing that everything has address lables to where you are going to ship them to just incase for somreason your stuff gets moved around on the trailer if it is only one or two pallets or in case of a accdent insure that you have a weight on the bill and I know with Yellow you can request a inside delivery ( this means just inside the door ) at a additional cost. If you are just shipping the one or two pallets insure you have a peice count, and check it when you recive it on the other end. then I would call the customer service for each freight line and compare cost's if I was doing the truck load I would check with ABF Freight as I have heard more about them with this service then the others. Good Luck and God Bless. as a after thought on the bill of lading make sure you write in a discription of " HOUSE HOLD GOODS " and ask about insurance on the shipment

ABF will leave you a trailer or drop off a Relocube, whatever better fits your needs. The relocube is lowered to ground level for loading where the trailer option comes with a user-friendly ramp.

www.abfs.com for more info, out of state moves only.
