Default Is this normal?

First, let me say that I know new drivers don't have an easy go of things. But this sounds really messed up. Is it?

My son started driving for a company out of Murray, Ky about 3-4 weeks ago. First was orientation, no problem. That ended on Wed but he didn't get a truck until Sat. He was dispatched to Atlanta on Sat and delivered on Sun. On Mon, no load AND steering problems. Went to Freightliner in Atlanta where they told him his truck was really in need of repair and was not safe to drive. He Qualcommed company and they dispatched him WITH a load back to Murray. He sat from Tue afternoon to Thur afternoon waiting for something to be done to his truck. They finally sent it out to have the transmission replaced. When it was returned they replaced the tie rod ends, kingpins and a tire and did an alignment. Finally he got a load to NJ, then Chicago, then Orlando. Things are looking up, right? Wrong. He's been sitting in Orlando for almost two days(with two other trucks from the same company). As it stands right now, his co-driver wants to go back to Murray to quit. My son is still unsure if wants to quit or not. If he just leaves Orlando and goes to Murray on his own, is that abandonment? (He's empty right now).

Like I said, I know newbies aren't treated real good, but this sounds a little overboard.

Any input appreciated.

While he's sitting...Is he allowed to leave the truck parked until a decision is made about where the next load is???...When your sitting, your not getting paid, so it's your time correct???

I understand that its hard to get a load out of florida. Alot of freight goes in but unless you haul old people out you might sit for a load. Is it your sons first driving job? I know you said he's new with the co. but does he have other options. I would suck it up at least til I got back home and be nice about leaving the company. Just tell them it is not for you and maybe they wont screw with his DAC report. Good luck to him! And by the way.... yes it sounds pretty normal for a co. that deals with a new driver who will put up with it.

I was asking questions...No, not a trucker yet...I would appreciate you to ask your son the questions I asked...Unless some of the experienced drivers here want to answer???
