| | newbies how would u feel about this?
i drove a tractor trailer professionally for the better part of the last 12 yrs i have had otr jobs with big companies, local jobs for small companies, and every job in between. i have driven a tank, double pup flat beds hauling coils, dry vans, single pup dry vans, 53' dry vans, haz-mat, and even drove a car hauler for a period of time.. I have always been able to earn a relatively respectable wage in this industry however i feel as though for me anyways truck driving and the industry itself was like joining the military... where recruiters and driving school admissions officials will tell u whatever it is that u need to hear in order to attend thier school and a company recruiter will tell u the same in order to get their commission and get their freight moved... i have thought long and hard about writing a book exposing the industry for what it really is and putting to bed all the myths and promises that are made to an individual who is often in a tough position and forced to find a new profession with an ample amount of job opportunities.
my question to you is whether a book like this would peek you interest or would you pass right over. i would truthfully write this book only with the intentions of helping my fellow human being understand the truth of what this business is all about...
-the long tedious hours
-the general and blantant disrespect displayed to the drivers at both shippers and recievers
-the lack of care displayed by companies to their drivers sleep schedules
etc...etc...etc
please respond to this post and let me know if u think this wouldbe a concept worth pursuing

frankly, i would NOT read it as i lived it, and still do, so i "know the ending"...
its like that tv movie about the doomed flight on 9/11, we all know they died at the end, we lived that tragic day thanks in part to the continued tv news media and print media... why would i want to watch something like that again on tv, when i "know" how it ends...??? it would bring up too much hardship and stress.....
as for trucking and the industry in general, maybe some yuppie on his lunch break might read a page or two, but then he'd be snarling at the now closed Starbuck's coffee shop he had to walk by......
any book would have to "pique" someone's interest if it involved, sex, drugs, and alcohol, and a mistress to the politician, while his wife is recovering from major surgery.........
other than that, a book about the trucking industry....????
who cares.....we live it daily, why should we "read all about it".....??????
i'll wait for the "made for tv movie", starring Robert Downey Jr, and Clare Danes as the waitress...........

I'm not a Newbie since I've been out and about from late '98.
I say give it a shot as one can write a book about anything, however it is then decided by a Publisher whether or not to follow through.
I had for a while in the early 90s, considered writing a book about all the fun and pratfalls of Motels and Hotels. It would have been based merely in Comedy yet with factual and provable information however I never did follow through.
Like I said, GO FOR IT!!
I would read it if only to say: "Yep, done that", "Yep, been there", Nope hadn't done that OR been there", "Wow I didn't know that was possible",.... One never knows anymore that one can write a Book or Tome and some Producer get hold of it and want to base a Movie upon it. I for One, SUPPORT your endeavor because I've never hauled Parking Lots nor Reefers nor Pups, Doubles, Triples, B-Trains or anything smaller than a 40' Dry Van or Flatbed or longer than a 53' Dry Van or Flatbed since there ARE 57' Dry Vans.
I see this idea as informative and comedic as well as awakening.

I would read it too. Evidently the public has at least a little interest in truck drivers. You have to drive on ice though with impending death if you go through! Oh, wait maybe thats what they like about it!!! |

well i think for sure my book would be readable by all but would havean accent on attracting people in the exploratory phase of considering taking on trucking as a profession. i mean in my case i thought it was gonna be hot homemade apple pies at mom and pop truck stops and found out the hard way most truck stops are taco bells and wendys.... or i thought it was gonna be me versus the open road instead its me versus the dan ryan expressway or the new jersey turnpike... lol
i thought it was gonna be cool sleeping in an air conditioned sleeper until u get issused a crappy truck that shakes when u try to sleep and a bull hauler parks next to you... or how about when u gotta pee and and the nearest rest area is 40 miles away and when u finally arrive u find out these state rest areas must hate truckers and hence u have to walk a 1/4 of a mile from your truck to the restroom....i'm sure we've all been there!!!
things to that nature would be my focus!!! or on a more serious side... the blatant disrespect we put up with from dispatchers and shippers alike... or the position of being so tired and not being able to find a place to park for the night... i mean i could go on for hours and hours... at least long enough to fill a 200 page book!!
