The correct spelling for Brokers is BROKErs at least from the perspective of many O/Os.
And that's the truth!! Sorry, I recall the old Laugh In and that saying. I was talking with someone about it and just wondered. I did look up some sites for information but they usually make things look good because they want you to sign up for their 'classes'. To get to the truth, go to the source... HERE!
The truth is , I think freight brokering is probably a " Good Ole' Boys" club. and probably very hard to break into. I'm sure getting companies to trust you with there loads isn't an easy task! Plus you must have the drivers ready to go when the loads are ready. I personally don't equate freight broker being the same as some guy pulling "Cheap Freight" off of some load board somewhere.....Freight brokers have exclusive loads ,they are the middle man between the driver with his own authority,and/or trucking company and the shipper. Tough nut to crack, but not impossible!
The BIGGEST PROBLEM with becoming or starting a Brokering Venture/Business is Contracting the correct Truck Drivers/Trucking Companies.
There have been and will be many Brokers that have dealt with unscrupulous Truckers in that some of these so called professionals have acquired loads only to either hold onto them (like the old days when Drivers COULD do such) or outright steal them in the forms of either selling the load to another Trucking outfit (3rd Party Brokering) or selling the load somewhere to whomever appeared like at a Truck Stop or wherever.
MANY Brokers have been scammed these ways and have implemented many restraints in their Contracts.
WE have dealt with quite many Brokers that had been ripped off by Trucking Companies/Owner Operators, and Drivers wonder why the Trucking Avocation/Field has such a negative connotation.
C. H. Russell is to Brokering what J. B. Hunt is to Trucking as an example.
