With the traler brakes set, put the tractor in reverse and put pressure on the pin then set the brakes with that pressure still on.
If the pressure is on the jaws, opposite of what i said above, the handle wont come out.

If the tandems won't slide on the trailer when your trying to get legal. I was told and it works by a friend of mine. He said just put it in gear forward or reverse, and get her going not fast of course and pull the trailer hand brake, and that should break the hold on the tandems. It works tried, and thanked him for his wisdom. And now I'm passing it on to you!

What's the big deal just ask a driver "hey buddy can you pull somnething for me?"

where was I oh yeah
I am leased to a company that requires every delivery slid to the rear, all road moves 41 center tandems and slid forward when back in the yard.

1. Big hammer short handle
2. big hammer long handle
3. no grease... bang the living daylights out of a stuck pin
4. all of our drivers are given something similar to this
How To Use the Equalizer Tandem Pin Puller and 5th Wheel Release Tool - Free IQ
5.all the sliding I do all day, yet company policy is no hand may touch the slider lever, you must use the tool

That usually does it.
It also helps if you grease the pin every coupla weeks, too.

This is all I've ever had to do with a 5th wheel pin^

Now trailer axle pins can be a *****, sometimes the handles are bent and it becomes a two person operation, just be very careful. I carry a rubber chock with me and also a spray can of silicone lubricant. If I have trouble sliding the axles I first spray the lube on the top of the rails wherever I can, then slide the axles all the way back, spray again, slide forward, spray again.

Then I have no problems.

Default another way to release fith wheel

i was going in city with narrow turnes and couldn't get the fith wheel to release so i went over a curb and used the curb and trolley brake to release the fith wheel also good if the trailer wont release it will work to for that.
