Default Driver App & USIS Questions

Does a prospective employee need to enter any info on their application that is NOT listed in the USIS files?

If I understand the way USIS works, they have employment records, DMV records and criminal records all in a persons file. Is the USIS file the only one used by the national trucking companies?

Is there anything important that would not be listed in the USIS file and might be obtained elsewhere by a company?

List what they ask for-no more, no less. If they want more information they will ask. The company can use any background checking agency that they want. If your are concerned about what the USIS has on you get a copy of your file.

first, you really need to get your free copy of the DAC/USIS report. you need to see what employers subscibe to DAC have entered. NOT ALL employers subscribe to DAC, but those numbers are dwindling.

as said, there are other companies that do the same background checking, one i do know of is Sterling. where they are out of, right now, i think NY, but i'm not 100% sure.

here is thier website, and by the way, in the drop down menu, they DO SERVE the transportation industry..

http://www.sterlingtesting.com/

and by the way.....Sterling did a background check ON ME......several months ago......never heard of them till then......

I applied at a company recently and had my orientation date set, USIS sent me a letter listing what they searched for, I compared what they found to my criminal background paperwork I obtained from the county I lived in, USIS found I was charged with a misdemeanor (not an issue to the company hiring me)(I also ended up staying at my current employer), my county paperwork showed I was charged with a felony, but it was dismissed, never convicted...I've been with the same company for 3+ years, the misdemeanor charges were over 5+ years anyways...Long story short, get your USIS report, get your criminal background paperwork from your state/county (they charge for this), check everything before you apply, and be honest on applications, dishonesty is grounds for termination later on if the company finds out...

The one thing I like about the DAC/USIS deal is the:
"It has been 7 or more years since employment terminated therefore no additional information shall be added". (not verbatim)
In essence, one does NOT have to supply a reason for leaving a certain employer 7+ years back regardless, nor will ANY info be supplied other than Employer name and address at least by DAC/USIS.
Other information systems have their own rules which may or not conflict.

North Carolina is (not alone and is) an "at will" state meaning that neither the Company nor the Employee need supply a reason for terminating the Employment. Either can quit the other for any reason or no reason.
