SLIP is on a distinguished road
Default Any advice for a new driver looking for a dedicated or good trucking job

I recently graduated truck driving school and I am currently operating a end dump, and I have 3 months exp, no tickets and clean history, But I want to get into freight where there is more money and benefits. I have a family so the home time is very important, I have offers from Swift, Werner and Central Referigerated. Swift said that they would bring me on at a whopping 27 cents per mile and I live outside reno nv so I would possibly see home once or twice a week and there web site says for regional that you would be home every week, Werner said that I would be home every 2 weeks which is the same as central and they are both under 30 cents a mile. I would like to see home at least once a week on a dedicated route or somthing close to that, And the idea of driving a nice truck is appealing, However being away from home prolonged is a problem for me. I would appreciate any help, Thank You

You would be better off staying with your present job for at least another 9 months .With a clean MVR and a year of experiance under your belt youll be able to land a job with heckofa lot better class of company than the ones you named . [like an LTL or a tank or distrubution outfit] OTLs should be avoided at all costs! good luck.

Swift is probaly being less than honest with you about the home twice a week part. Thell bait and switch [just like a used car dealer] once youve hired on thell tell you that you have to work OTR for 6 mos. to qualify for a dedicated run in your area [if one exists at all] if they say they can have you home twice a week have them put in writing !! if they refuse ,that should be all proof you need about the recuiters honesty.

That's no joke! .27per mile, then when you quit they give DAC a false report in your records ? I'd shovel dog crap before I worked those rippoff OTR companys. You gave the OP good advice.

If family is important
don't take a job that takes you away from them.
Find a job that keeps you home every day.
