Its all relative, when you get down to it.

Most of the large OTR companies want younger drivers so they can screw them over, IMO. If you happen to have lots of miles that's a plus no matter how your record looks on paper.

The point is that some truck schools take lots of $$$ from people who they KNOW wont be able to easily obtain a driving job with previous felonies or DWI's.

You can post all the numbers you want, but if you have an experienced driver with and inside track, dealing with a simple DUI charge or a non-violent felony, it won't prevent a good driver from getting work somewhere, if they have a good work history and lots of miles under their belts.

It's the people with zero experience who will be running like an ape on hot coals IF they can find some jippo trucking company that will hire them on.

So true Ranger. In another lifetime I committed a major screw-up behind the wheel. It was a good job and I was good and stupid at the time. Several years later the same guy that had no choice but to fire me called me one day out of the blue and offered me a job. He had left the other company to start his own company and was looking for drivers. It wasn't a great job but he gave me a second chance. They don't come around often. To paraphrase what he said to me, " I always knew you were a good driver. You just screwed up. I could never hire you back at the other company, but this is my company" Lucky break for me. It got me back on the road and I put everything behind me. Later on he sold that company and I moved on to something better.

Yeah that's a great story, Ricky. Sometimes life hands people a bad deal, of one kind or another and all you can do is hold on a wait for better days to come around.
