Default I "almost got killed thread"

Last summer my exhaust pipe cracked and the heat melted some air lines
I was on I93 just north of Boston
A wrecker came and lifted the tractor up in the air so the mech could get under the truck
Then finally he said to go in tractor and start up
I climbed in but when I wanted to get out I forgot I was in the air
My first step out landed me into the lane of 93 traffic on my back
I rolled under the truck and somehow did not get hit...coulda got killed

This is before I drove a truck..

Worked at a place that put the "super loads" on the road. Was only 18 and between high school and college. We finished loading the massive stuff and I was the only one left to load the small stuff. After a 10-12 hour day I was tired and ready to go home.

Anyway, I was loading a 10-15k piece on a flat with an overhead crane. I was using the small hoist on a 30 ton because it was fast. No problem, I was well within the rated weight of the small hoist. When I picked the piece up off the floor is swung violently because I did not observe over-head crane rule #1... Make sure you are centered... I was saved by "stress gussets" in the next machine we were building. When the piece swung, I was pushed into the gap between the gussets.

If not for that gap, I would not be here today to piss off the teamsters on the boards. Not kidding... I would have been crushed to death at the age of 18 because of stupidity.. Luck saved me..

You know 18 year olds all think they are immortal...when I think of some of the stunts I pulled at that age!
Jakebrake12, you don't piss this Teamster off, I enjoy your articulate posts...even if you are on the wrong side of the debate!

Whatever side of the debate you are on, life is about living and learning.. That could have been the end of me in a split-second. If that would have been the flat side of the machine I'd be dead.

I guess you live and learn..

Hell, maybe I'll be on your side of the fence someday...

K... Maybe not...

Anyway, be safe out there no matter what you are doing. It does not take much to end it all..
