Default Help! I need insight on recommendations for truck driving training companies

I have my Commercial A permit. Now I am looking for a company sponsored training program that would be better than others. I've heard/read a few statements between Schnieder, Swift and Stevens. The least complaints are from Stevens. The most negative from Swift. Before I sign the dotted line, could anyone give me thier feedback/thoughts. I don't have the money to go to private/college training. Any insight, good or bad, would be greatly appreciated for training and future employment with any company. I know every situation is different, like personalities. But I rather have something to base my decision on than to go in blindly. I don't mind being away from home for long periods as I have nothing to come back to anyway.

Thanks for the heads up

depending on your particular location, i would suggest schneider first. sadly yes, some companies have a bad reputation, but sometimes its also a case of sour grapes that get posted rather than the good stuff. as far as Stevens goes, i haven't really heard one way or another good/bad about them, and i do see a lot of thier trucks running up/down the eastern side of the country.

before you do decide, make sure that you get the low-down on home time. you claim you don't need to be home, but you still have "some" connections right now at your home base. you do not want to burn out by being on the road for extended weeks, or MONTHS at a time.....you need your time off.........AWAY from the truck, and the whole trucking atmosphere for a while to re-gain some sanity.

I don't know where you live but I would also recommend Schneider. Reason being is they will get you home which is alway's important to a new driver. All of these company's are the same Schneider ,Werner ,J.b.Hunt. ,Roehl ,Heartland ,Swift, C R England and on and on....You will see all these company's at all the same places you pick up and deliver, pay variance is a penny or so. Ultimately it is what is important to you ..The Truck... The Pay.... The Hometime.....Can you take the Truck Home?? Do you want to pull Reefer, Flatbed or dry Van?

Schneider offers all the above you can move to another division if you think one is not for you. I started there in the early 90's and it was a good place to gain experience and still get home. I doubt after a few years," I worked there for 4" you will want to stay. Not just Schneider, but any Newbie company because you will find there is bigger dollar's to be made. But you have to get experience First. KEEP YOUR RECORD CLEAN..

If you want to run really hard and being home is unimportant check out INDIAN RIVER TANK LINES

With most of the newbie carriers the more you make per mile the less you run .

I know for a fact that is the case with Heartland and JB hunt.

so get your experience 6 mos. to a year or more and move

Are you sure you cant afford driving school from your local community college or one near by the instate rates are cheap for most tech schools and you should be able to get financial assistance or student loans you will get better training and more confidence behind the wheel instead of 3 weeks of "crash" course training . just my 2cents

You mis-quoted me but I totally agree YOU WILL NOT WANT TO STAY with a newbie company because you will find there are bigger $$$ to be made.
