What has always amazed me is the amount of regulation aimed toward truck drivers while other professions get a free pass. When I was a paramedic it was common to work 24, 36, 72, even 96 hour shifts. I guess regulators don't think it's important for people in the medical field to be alert.

If you're dying, do you really want a paramedic who's in the 23rd hour of a 24 hour shift treating you?

Doctors are in the same boat. Residents work insane hours at a job that requires incredible mental agility. Same with firefighters.

How about police officers? We get tickets for "distracted driving" while they're driving down the road at high speeds typing on a laptop mounted specifically so they can use it WHILE DRIVING! The hypocrisy of that alone stuns me.

Me too.

They also use thier cellphones, which are banned from use at the ear in CA.

Everyone else has to use a "hands-free device", which is stupid as its still legal to punch in the phone number which means the driver is not looking at the road when doing so.

Oy vey!

Default Studies done in darkened rooms.

That study will only encourage the folk that STILL want to have the BLACK BOX installed in addition to other electronic devices/devises.
At some point in the near future, there should be "drive by wire" trucks with cameras mounted where the driver would normally be with 270+ degree vision or 360 degrees because of trailer mounted wireless cameras.
These trucks would then be guided by remote sensors placed strategically about the country or simply from GPS.

Fatigue from driving trucks will NOT be lessened until there are more parking places or less trucks!!
ANY new rules or hos will only increase FATIGUE, not lessen it.

Yeah out here in CA you can't park anywhere anymore, even just to stop for a meal somewhere other then a truckstop. Everywhere you go where there is a nice place to park there is a "no parking" zone sign.
