"We will teach you how to get your commercial drivers license (CDL) while you drive for us."
| sounds like any other sign on the bottom line and we own your butt for X number of years............then it seems to look like its mostly an owner-operator company. i would think that they will try to somehow "push you" to buying a truck from them...
just my 2¢ worth.

They are part of PRIME Inc.: Quote:
Wil-Trans started in 1990 with 12 trucks by former drivers. Working with Prime, we have since grown to an over the road fleet made up of over 100 trucks. We are a small company leased on to Prime, one of the largest reefer carriers in the country.
Since day one, Prime has provided more than just freight for our drivers. With their help, we are able to offer our lease operators benefits such as fuel and tire discounts, 100% fuel surcharge reimbursement, as well as awards and benefits that match industry leaders. And with our recent coordination with Prime's new Advance Program, we're helping guys starting out with their own trucks to be successful, too. After all, that's how we started 14 years ago.
Under Prime's new Advance program drivers with or without their own authority can haul Prime's trailers and get paid on a weekly basis. Also, these new owner operators will be able to eliminate much of the overhead expenses that decrease their profits. For owner operators without their own authority, we at Wil-Trans, in coordination with Prime's Advance division, are able to offer Prime trailers, weekly pay, better rates, and better lanes than owner operators could get on their own. If you have any questions, give Wil-Trans a call at (888) 945-8726 - (888) WIL-TRANS. If you want to learn more about the Advance Program with PRIME LOGISTICS please call (800) 891-7277.

I've been accepted for training at Wil-Trans and some other questionable companies (Swift, CR England, Scneider etc.) but I am trying to make the best decision for my family based on what info I can find. A little info about me...I have been in the construction industry for over 20 years and due to the poor economy I haven't been able to find a job that will pay my bills since July (43, 4 kids 2 grown on their own and 2 at home) so I need stable work and a decent wage. I have a clean MVR, Totally clean background, Drug free and I should have no problem getting a Hazmat endorsement (I had a security clearance at the Pentagon a few years ago) I can't go to a driving school for 2 reasons, I can't afford the tuition and can't be without a paycheck for a month or more (9 weeks at Vo-Tech). So I am hoping I can get some direction and help from the drivers here. I know there is a 125%+ turnover rate for OTR and I hear a lot of bad things about the companies I have been accepted to, so I am real leary about going into OTR driving. I also have one more question....has anybody worked for CTL out of Mulberry,FL? I am trying to get accepted there as it is local driving and I will be home everyday. Thanks for any info and help.

Just my opinion, I would go with the company Prime itself because then (I think) you will get health insurance. You have a family so #1 should be a job with an income stream and #2 should be health insurance. Not having health insurance of some kind is not wise. Any time you work for these guys that lease on to a bigger outfit they only pay a check and no benefits. That check might be quite small too because the lease operator isn't making that much to pay you too.
I think these guys have a shop and this owner operator thing is just a way to get write offs. They have a pretty good sized diesel mechanic shop that will work on anything. There are a lot of trucks around Springfield, MO
