Default OTR Forums

I've been through the OTR forums and on every one of them, except a couple where nobodies posted anything at all, someone is telling of a bad experience they had with the company saying "RUN RUN RUN and don't look back" or something of that nature. Are there any good companies out there that might not be on the OTR board that anyone would recommend? I have 6 months experience driving a flatbed for a steel manufacturer. I tried TMC and they wouldn't hire me because I was on unemployment 4 yrs ago. I've applied at a few more but haven't heard anything.
HELP ME!!!

although i am unaware of your particular situation other than what you have disclosed, i feel i NEED to ask these questions:

when you were on unemployment 4 years ago as you state, did you collect unemployment benefits..??

if so, did you have any proof of the compenstation you collected.?

how long were you unemployed for, one month, two, etc, etc.?

the driving experience you have now, is it current, or does it go back to the unemployment time.?

do you have any certified truck driving school diploma.?

there are probably more questions i could ask, but right now, the 14 cups of coffee i just had at this early hour, aren't kicking in yet.

suffice it to say, 6 months (if current) experience should be enough to get your foot into the door of nearly ANY company. why TMC rejected you, is beyond me. that unemployment of 4 years ago shouldn't mean anything, unless it was for several months, and you have NO proof of your claim.

as for any other OTR company "out there", yes there is (or in today's economy, WAS). there is Lisa Transport, out of NJ i believe. in your area of the country, you always have the LTL companies to try, unless you already did. i will try and find some companies not listed on these baords, but it may take a day or two.

I see that your location is WV. Here are a few flatbed companies that I hear have good reps:
GYPSUM EXPRESS. They got a dedicated terminal in WV(below Wheeling).

PGT

FALCON

PI&I

Double R, I recently saw a nice write-up on Gypsum Express.(can't remember where) and on the surface it seemed to be a decent outfit with good equipment and regional runs.

I collected unemployment for a year. The place I left tried screwing a bunch of people and we all walked out them so I wanted them to pay as long as I could collect plus my wife had a really good job so money wasn't really a problem. I do have proof of compensation.
The driving experience I have now is current. I didn't go to a school,I rode with the guy I'm replacing (when he retires) for about 3 months and took the test and passed it.
TMC said I had to have 5 years of steady employment so if I don't find anything by next year I'm gonna try again.
I just got back from Charlotte,NC and wrote down like 8 different companies whose trucks I saw that am going to apply for.
Here they are, tell me if you think they're good or bad.
LCT (Larry Coggins Trucking)
Maverick
Smith Transport
Interstate Distributors
Marten
Warren Trucking
Burns
Houff

Thanks for the help.
Steve
