Question Are they jerking me around?

Interviewed for a job today with the HR manager. She wanted to have me then interview with the transportation manager. The Trans. Mgr. comes out and says he's actually off that day but came in to get something he left at the office. Said HR person didn't know he was off today. Says he'll be back in Friday, will call me to schedule the 2nd interview, probably mid next-week.

Is this their cute way of rejecting me without telling me why?

I very, very seldom get an answer as to why I'm rejected for a job. I assume it's because they'd be embarrassed to tell me, because the reason is stupid. (Such as we don't hire white guys, etc.)

However, this outfit has the type of trucking that involves a lot of manual labor that a lot of guys won't do. I'd rather do manual labor, be home 3 times a week, and make good money than be doing a line haul where I'm bored to death and not making as much.

This place also has had to train their own drivers because of the work involved. A lot of experienced drivers won't do it. But I have ten years experience driving, no tickets, recordable accidents, DUIs, felonies or misdemeanors.

The only problem with me is that I've been screwed too many times by trucking companies. Never had a job last more than two years due to lies by employers.

Do you think they're still interested? Has anyone else had this happen?

DS, maybe the TM was off that day and the HR person screwed up, he had his wife and kids in the car and didn't have 45 minutes for a proper interview.
I can tell you with experience, (having alot of years in manual labor), if you have had a good number of jobs, the fact is they may not be interested, in their eyes, they have the application of a job hopper, here is a job that not many want, or can even do, they are taking a risk on you by training you, only to have you quit after a few weeks because its "too hard", not saying you would, but it happens, if they have the application of a guy that has only had 2 or 3 jobs in their working life, a few of them hard labor jobs like foodservice, now that they are interested in, they know that quite possibly this guy is going to stick around.
If you have a big resume in the past 10 years, you are going to have trouble convincing some of these employers that you will stick around, especially the ones that have a hard time keeping people anyway.
I wish you luck though, I hope you get a job soon, I imagine it has to be sort of depressing to be out of work, I know it would be for me. Where all have you tried to get on at?

UPS Freight, FedEx Freight, FedEx National, Estes, Schwan's Foods, Beaver Express.........I can't even think of all of them.

My resume now includes a short paragraph on each employer as to why I'm not there anymore, without going into any ranting about how someone is a so-and-so, etc.

The paragraph is a good idea IMO, at least that gives them an idea, I can't believe you didn't get anywhere with Beaver, they must not have been hiring at the time, they have a pretty high turnover where I come from, I hear UPS Freight is as hard as fedex to get on with, I don't remember if I told you but US foodservice was hiring in Lenexa, there is more to do there than just deliver, Interstate brands (wonder bread) thats a good job too, I posted this stuff to you on another thread, there was another one that I can't remember, I'll see if I can find it unless you have already read it.

DS, it was Quick and Tasty or QT..Quick Trip Stores in Belton, I understand they are wonderful to work for, even the store clerks stay for years, I know they run quite a few trucks, you ought to hit their website.

this is all so very possible. i mean afterall if i were to have a day off, i wouldn't want to conduct business either, so i would cut this person some slack here.

this can be your demise.............just because someone lies to you, isn't a good enough reason to quit. by your admission of quitting because of lies, what makes you think this new job will be any better...think they are going to tell all the truth here....????

right now, if i were to be interviewing YOU for a job, when i look at your application, and i read it, you wanna know what i'll say to you, really....???

i'll say, "you won't be here for more than two years, why should I invest MY time, and benefits for you, and you'll leave....so why should i hire you".....???

how would you answer me....????? be honest........you already admitting to quitting because of "the lies"...........

YES.....I DID HAVE THIS HAPPEN......the question of, "why should i hire you, when you'll just quit...."???????

needless to say, i changed my ways and really fast, as i didn't get hired THAT DAY by THAT GUY.........

you might have been given the brush off..............

moral of the story........EVERY ONE LIES...........so what.....?? do the job.
