aren't you aware that most OTR companies do this for newbies out of school..........??? like Swift, Werner, Schnieder, etc,etc....

you may have been lucky enough to get a job locally or by birth, but no one else is. so if a bus ticket is offered, they go.........they NEED a job.

sometimes your advice isn't any advice at all, but B.S.

and by the way, i got a bus ticket years ago (right out of school) to go and work for North American Van Lines, in Fort Wayne, In........

and i had no problem........what's yours......?????

My current employer offered me the choice of a plane ride or mileage reimbursment to attend orientation. I chose to drive my car. I don't like to be without my wheels, especially if things don't go as planned.

Sorry but I have to disagree with you Gonfercoffee.

I have only worked for 4 companies in 16 plus years of driving. 1 company (Trans-States Lines) bought a bus ticket for me to ride from Harrisburg Pa to Fort Smith Ar to attend orientation. I worked there over 2.5 years until they sold out to Burlington Motor Carriers. I wanted no part of BMC so I called Shaffer National who rented me a car from Fort Smith Ar back to Harrisburg Pa. I attended orientation in New Kingstown Pa and worked there for 3 months. Good people at both places for the most part but I found a much better paying job and moved on to my current position with Eastern Freightways.

Moral to the story? If a company offers you a job and they are willing to make arrangements to get you to orientation at their cost then accept the position and do the best job you can while there. Your attitude will go a long way towards determining if you're going to have a positive employment experience or a negative one.

Out of the companies I've applied to they all offer you a bus ticket. How do expect to get a job if you don't take it?

not so much the job in of itself, but how does one expect to get out there...and cheaply...??

with the price of gasoline, or airfare or train fare, a bus ticket is what MOST OTR companies buy you........

i would never drive my personal vehicle out to any OTR company. because once hird, you get into a rig.....then you're off and running....

they would have to get you back to the company, so you can retrieve your car...........then you have to drive it home......then guess what.....

how do you get back to your truck at the trucking company....??

uhhhhh.......i think its called a "bus ticket".............????
