Default Let's talk trucking...please

I'm on the road...while some are struggling...(I still have a job)...I still see travel homes (big travel /mobile home busses)...Maybe there is a light at the end of the tunnel... Just not my tunnel...I don't retire until 2030...the social security system will be insolvent in 2040. Not my statement...look at the statement you get from social security every year...on the back of the page it explains the insolvency....No one wants to deal with my childrens' future...shame on you...

i see an occasional camper, motor home, etc,etc.........

some of those people are stuck with them and thier high fuel consumption/cost..........good for them..........did anyone who can't even drive a car think they can drive one of those beasts...???

many of those i see in the local "swap" sale magazines.......i have seen some advertised for several months..........some people cannot even just give them away...........

as far as social security, if i even live that long, it'll be a miracle. i'll manage somehow i suppose, but it would also appear that my plans at retiring at 62 are fading away.........looks like 65, or maybe 68 instead......

there will always be some sort of social security. heck, if the guberment can bail out the banks, they can bail that system out as well.

Default Mobile road blocks

Yes I no what you mean about camper vans & their drivers when I was doing the South Island run & used to cross on the rail ferries, I used to pray I would get a front parking spot on the ship for my rig because the ferries are usually full of tourists in camper vans, & if they get off first you get stuck behind them for miles, hence the name mobile road blocks.
And as far as the worlds economy goes, god only knows, us poor Little peons down under get dragged along by the bigger economies, for us it's like the USA gets the sniffles & we get a huge big does of the flu if you know what I mean, still I am just a Lil pebble on A huge beach plain & unremarkable and have to go with the flow.

Cheers kiwiray down under

I was camping this summer at a PA State Park and had to help back a guy into a pretty easy site. I also watched a couple leave because they couldn't get there rolling Hotel in there designated site. all I know is you can get alot of Hotel rooms for the price of one of these beasts.

Wild Duece, it's up to you to help your children prepare for their future. Just like I'm preparing myself for my future. It's up to all of us as individuals to take care of ourselves and not rely on the government that can't even manage itself. Social insecurity may or may not be around for me. I'm doing my best to be self-sufficient by the time I'm ready to slow down. If social security is still around for me, I'll consider it an added bonus, but I'm living my life as if it won't be. Please don't fall into that entitlement mentality that seems to be so pervasive nowadays.

If you're counting on SS and the government to take care of you in your old age instead of preparing yourself for retirement, you've got nobody to blame but yourself. Despite what the democrats will say, it's not the government's job to take care of you with pensions and medical care.

I've always prepared as if SS won't exist when I reach retirement age. I put as much as I can into my 401(k) and I have Roth IRA's for my wife and I. 401(k)'s and other pretax retirement plans are great, but if you overload yourself on pretax plans now, your tax burden during retirement will be higher. A couple of good Roth IRA's will be a big help in defraying tax costs when you retire. Roth IRA's are post-tax money, so there's no tax on it when you take it out. Non-taxable income is a must-have for your retirement years!

I'd highly suggest you sit down and talk with an adviser about your retirement. They can help you with all kinds of different investments, from short-term to long-term, and it could make the difference between whether you're blocking the road with your RV in your golden years or sitting in your trailer waiting for your government check. :)
