Default New here, Bunch of questions (kinda long)

i am currently unemployed, and for some time, have wanted to get into truck driving. i've got experience in long distance driving, i delivered powersports equipment all over the country in my last job. (non cdl) here is where my problem comes in.

in 2005, i was charged with a felony. non violent, and motor related (ran from the cops) i served my probation, no jail time. and am off probation.

I went to truck driving school and was told i'd have to wait till 10/21/09 to be able to get my cdl, because michigan requires you to drive 3 yrs clean before they'll give u a cdl, from the date of your last suspension.

is this true in every state? can i move to ohio for example and get a new licence and start driving? i have no points on my record, and i know it will be hard, but i am more then willing to put in my time, and work as hard as i need to to become sucsesful, and build a career. michigans economy is beyond horriable, and i just want out of here. i've been on the rd 3 weeks at a time, and it doesnt bother me. i just love to drive. what can i do? i dont want to wait a year to get a job, but i think i am stuck. can anyone help or give advise? thanks, bill.

Felonies are a big deal in driving. If yours involved theft or something like it don't waste your time with a CDL. Also there is no relation to driving a pickup truck and driving a rig Lots of paperwork and other things you don't deal with in a non-CDLjob. I don't know if moving to another state would help as most belong to the Interstate Compact so your record is online. You might call some companies and see if they will give you a shot at driving before you waste time and money. Good luck!

as i stated above, its non violent, and NOT theft related. i ran from the cops. i was charged with fleeing and aluding. as far as the paper work goes, i usually had between a 15-18 page contract that needed every t crossed and evey eye doted. paperwork isnt what worries me. i've been told by the truck driving school i went to, that they "should" be able to get get me a job, it'll just be with come of the less popular carriers, they wanted to try and get me set up with swift and trans am if i remember correctly.

tough to get a truck job with a felony
especially general freight co's
its too much of a hassel for mgt
you could flee and elude with a whole load of beer

everyone will assume you pleaded guilty to a lessor charge anyway

your best bet is
trash
dump truck
scrap metal
waste paper
junk yard
recyclers

you get the picture
Any co that Tony Soprano may operate...............

Bill L.,
This is the deal killer right here:

i was charged with a felony
It is not the companies that hire you, rather it is their insurance company. When a insurance company sees a felony on an app., it throws a red flag, regardless what the charge was.

Now, a felony does not automatically disqualify you(in most cases) but it will make it tougher to get on with a company. Like others have said, call the companies and talk with them and see what their hiring requirements are and ask tell them EVERYTHING. Do not trust a CDL school when they say that they will get you a job when you graduate. They just want their money and make no guarantees of employment.

BOL.

I've apllied to alot of companies and have had a hard time because my USIS report shows I was arrested in 2003 for a simple assault when in fact it wasn't even me. I've never been arrested at all. Now I have to wait 30 days for USIS to fix the problem. I was hired by PGT and I'm supposed to be at their orientation on Oct.20. I just explained to them that the report was wrong and they said ok. Now with you,I think you might have a bigger problem because the report will have that on it and it is you. What I did was went online and applied to as many companies as I could. I started with the ones listed in the OTR forums. Thats where I would start if I were you just be up front and honest with them because they will find out.
Good luck.
