I am posting a message from one of our members of Truckingboards who felt the need to thank everyone that volunteered their time to aid in helping the victims of Hurricane Ike.
Pay it Forward and one day you will be rewarded! I wanted to send my heartfelt thank you to ALL the drivers who came down here and parked trailers at the staging location at Ford Park in Beaumont, Texas.
I know there were some "issues" with some things, but a LOT of those supplies did get where they were desperately needed.
It could not and would not have happened without the drivers out there. I have no way of knowing if they were paid fair rates or did it because they cared - either way, we were in such dire straights and their response was nothing less than phenominal.
You should have seen the trucks lined up for miles waiting to be parked - that, to me - was truly overwhelming.
Thank you all so very, very much!!!!!!
We're not done with our recovery - some areas will be years rebuilding and some areas may never recover. On the Bolivar Penisula, Gilchrist is gone - the surge wiped the little town from the map. Other than a very few damaged homes, it's nothing but sand now.
National media has moved on and it feels like we've been forgotten down here. It's something we're used to, especially after Rita - the forgotten storm. This one was worse in many ways - there are still over 100 people missing, maybe more. The environmental damage is unbelievable - the wetlands will take years to recover.
Blessings to you my friends and again - thank you from me and I know if they could, everyone who benefitted from your quick response would want to thank you too.
