Keene, N.H.-based C&S Wholesale Grocers has announced it will be cutting 50 jobs in addition to reducing jobs through attrition and transfers.

“In light of the business loss and in this difficult economic time, C&S needed to reduce overall expenses and headcount,” said C&S’s Bryan Granger in a statement. “C&S utilized normal attrition to the greatest extent possible to reach the necessary headcount reductions. Where reductions were required, C&S offered certain employees the opportunity to transfer to another warehouse. Where transfer was unavailable within a reasonable commuting distance, C&S offered employees a severance package.”

The layoffs occurred at C&S facilities in Brattleboro, Vt., South Hatfield, North Hatfield and Westfield, Mass., and Suffield and Windsor Locks, Conn.

C&S has operations in 12 states, including Hawaii and California as well as the eastern United States.
