When referring to my personal vehicle, I use the term automobile, or perhaps car, even though car sounds somewhat pedestrian.(whoa, unintended pun) Unless of course, I am operating my pick-up truck, which I refer to as "the old truck". Although not as old as many buildings downtown, having been built in 1970, it is indeed the oldest active vehicle in my neighborhood. I have found the term "four-wheeler" to be too vague for everyday use. I own a Snapper riding lawn mower with four wheels. I have a Craftsman self propelled lawn mower with four wheels. Either of these could be operated on a motorway. I also have four miniature toy automobiles which are non-operable. I think many truck drivers use the term "four wheeler" to emphasize the fact that they are operating a vehicle with eighteen wheels(or perhaps even more!). This may cause them to feel they have superior driving ability. In fact, the number of wheels on their vehicle may have no corelation with their abilities and/or intelligence. My wife, Lucy Ricardo, does not drive anything. Although this has caused some minor inconveniences, I find it beneficial for the most part.

I once offered to give another truckers wife a lift down to Taupo, ( a Town in NZ) it's a 4 hr drive, I was going all the way down to Wellington on a night run.
Well never again will I offer to take a woman, bloody hell, from the minute she put her butt on the passengers seat she started talking, YAK,YAK,YAK. I couldn't get a word in at all, & as you know, drivers spend alot of time on their own as you do, & I for one are not a talker in vehicles, well thank god it was only 4 hrs, I think if it had been any longer I would have chucked her out for some peace & quite.
