Government keeps 11-hour limit on truckers hours: Financial News - Yahoo! Finance

Quote:
NEW YORK (AP) -- The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration on Tuesday maintained a regulation that allows truck drivers to stay on the road for 11 hours in a row, rather than a limit of 10.In a conference call, administrator John Hill said that there was no evidence that safety of travelers is jeopardized by having truck drivers on the road for 11 hours.

Default 11 hour rule ROCKS

Personally, I think the 11 hour rule works great.
Especially when you have to have 10 hours break before coming back to work. Especially if you are laying over at the motel. Back in the old days when we only had 8 hours between shifts, you were lucky to get 5 hours sleep. Usually you spent 1 hour to get the motel van to come pick you up, ate something while watching a little TV and unwinding. Then if you get a 2 hour call, that meant we only had 5 hours to sleep fast.
Also the 34 hour reset works great to allow those that work 6 days a week and still have 1.5 days off to recoup. This allows you to work 70 hours in six days, make the big bucks, and still have a weekend.

"administrator John Hill said that there was no evidence that safety of travelers is jeopardized by having truck drivers on the road for 11 hours"

A recent study showed that your first hour of driving is more likely to involve a mishap than your 11th hour. For the safety of the public they should ban the first hour of driving.

i see more accidents during snow, ice and heavy winds than any other time of the year

so for the sake of public safety, we should not have any freight sent to any state that has chain laws.......between sept and april

if it saves one life, its worth it
