I've quit flashing in daylight on an open road. It just doesn't seem to matter anymore. With the advent of daytime running lights people seem to think you've flashed them and then come over and thank you (even though you haven't yet). This after they've left a small gap between you and them. Now where do you go if all of a sudden there's an emergency? You've lost sight of whats ahead of you until they pull away,or you back out of it. I've found if I don't flash, drivers tend to leave more of a gap before they move over. Gives me more breathing room.
I flash at night or in specific situations, i.e., long doubles, triples, oversize, road hazard ahead.
I take no offense when someone doesn't flash me, I know my limitations.
And PLEASE don't flash your high beams at night. Most of us would rather you did nothing.
