| | the TWIC card................. ok, i went this morning to get my TWIC card.......... it was at a cost of $132. for 5 years........i did not qualify for the discounted price of $105 because since my license is due to expire in january, that card would only be good till then. so from there, i'd have to re-apply, and pay the full price.......... but i'm good now for up to the 5 years. 4 page questionaire, which is actually only 2 pages. the other 2 pages are dis-qualifying reasons, like "attempted to commit crimes", not just the actual conviction of DOING the crime..... so needless to say, some people with convictions may not be able to obtain this card....... as far as it being a "bio-metric" ID card......... all they did was take my fingerprints and my photo....... geez people, THEY ALREADY HAVE MY FINGERPRINTS, for the hazmat endorsement...!!! why can't one guberment office "communicate" with another.......?? i know..........it makes sense, but if there isn't any red tape, the guberment cannot work........ so in closing, if you DO NOT have a criminal history, you should be able to get this federal ID card........... the whole process (once there) takes all of about 15 minutes......... i was told it takes about 8 weeks to get the card. but the young gal there said, she has had guys picking up thier cards in under 7 days..........!!! so be aware that SOME warhouses are starting to require this card, and if you do any work on or at any seaport, you will need this card soon........ even tanker drivers that fill up at the "racks" will be needing this card soon as well.........this i already found out in MY AREA........... | | | |

The Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) is a vital security measure that will ensure individuals who pose a threat do not gain unescorted access to secure areas of the nation's maritime transportation system.
TWIC was established by Congress through the Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA) and is administered by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and U.S. Coast Guard. TWICs are tamper-resistant biometric credentials that will be issued to workers who require unescorted access to secure areas of ports, vessels, outer continental shelf facilities and all credentialed merchant mariners. It is anticipated that more than 1 million workers including longshoremen, truckers, port employees and others will be required to obtain a TWIC.

I already have a passport and a FAST card, so this should not be a big deal to get since I passed the FAST program's background check and threat assessment.

They were down for a week and that caused them to be a month behind. A lot of other companies ( chemical plants ) are starting to say they will require the TWIC card also. They say only 20% of the people that will need them have applied, so get ready for a rush. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
