Default UAW Refuses Wage Concessions, Automakers Go Broke

White House: No immediate deal on auto loans

WASHINGTON – The White House said Sunday it does not expect to make an announcement by Monday on a possible plan to prevent the collapse of the troubled auto industry.

The Bush administration is considering ways to provide emergency aid to General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC, which have said they could run out of cash within weeks without government help.

White House officials said they did not expect an announcement on any funding for the companies on Sunday or Monday. President George W. Bush made a surprise visit to Iraq on Sunday.

The aid probably would benefit General Motors and Chrysler. Ford Motor Co. has said it has enough cash to survive 2009 but asked Congress for a line of credit in case financial conditions deteriorate.

Why should the Big Three get a bailout? Why should my tax dollars be used to bail out overpaid union auto workers so they can keep their precious benefits and their cushy jobs when I have to go to the hospital and beg the social worker for my meds that I cant afford? The Big Three need to be in bankruptcy court with everyone else right now. I dont see the federal government doing anything to help the trucking companies that are failing right now. They should be doing much more to re-regulate the industry so we can get our rates up to where they ought to be so there will be a profit for a change...

I certainly agree that the UAW has a right to enforce the terms of their contract but they really ought to take a step back and see what's going on in the country. The big 3 and the UAW never thought that the govt would say no to them. The automakers rushed to congress with their f--ing hands out begging for cash just because the banks got it, no plan just give me money. This is nothing more than Bush letting his pals loot the treasury. I say ok we're done talking you figure it out(after all that is their job) But if the UAW does not want to make wage connsesions oh well.

what killed this deal was not just the UAW refusing for a pay cut, it was the CEO of Ford who refused to take a cut but had the balls to ask the workers for one. CNN or MSNBC reported this jerk*ff's salary to around $26 mil a year ! if this is accurate, i applaud the UAW. one way or another, The Big 3 will get a bailout. correction, they may just elimate one of them and bail two out of this mess.

Who cares about Ford.GM and Cry.are the ones begging for a bailout the most.UAW dont want their jobs well I say let them file chapter 11.Let the UAW bail them out.At least the Teamsters give back to YRC to help the company out.Seems like they got bigger Gonads than the UAW.Acording to all the news I seen it was the UAW that killed it.And Ford said they are ok for now.
