Unhappy Speed Limiters

Canadian government has said as of January 1st 2009 truckers have to slow down and govern their trucks to 105 km. per hour. by a new bill they have just passed..why couldnt they just have the OPP go after the four wheelers for the high rate of speed they do on these hwys ..in the USA the speed limit is 70 mph.How are the drivers going to compete??? Just a thought

If I'm not mistaken it all started with the national companies wanting a level speed limit for competition reasons, they got D.Bradley on board. Since nobody bought into that they convinced the pollititions to make it a safety issue and the also an enviromental issue . I agree , if the OPP were doing there jobs this wouldn't be an issue. Interesting how the cops and mto are going to enforce and check each truck, are they going to be set up at the borders and set up at the provinces edges also? How about our US conterparts , are they going to want to have there trucks limited to a speed slower than what they can travel in the states? Just anouther law from a bunch of Aholes that don't know crap

1-800-big truck yup your right about those politions and the dot snooping around at the borders..nothing better to do except to nag a honest working class person making a living just like anyone else.I see its getting tougher to make a good buck these days.I see you are from Ontario..i dont know if you pick up the TRUCK NEWS that we have at the Husky but the last for what i read about that i just thought its a rumour and seen it with my own eyes its true the government is shutting down the hammer lane on us and its not right..all the tax money that went to the dot and the OPP etc. etc. etc...i find thats an excuse to put more money in their pocket..trucks need to run in the sweet spot on the tac or it will waist a lot of precious fuel by not running at 110 km. or 120 km. Thats hard on the enviroment if driving at 105 km.By By Just In Time loads and the customers are going to be upset asking where you been.Good ol Ottawa UH LOL

i just forgot something here..as far as i can remember in the early 80s the companies did have their trucks governed way down and yes i made adjustments to bring me back where I belong with the rest of the big dogs..i used to get a extra load or two to boot with that and got home much faster before my hours were up.I had to make another adjustment before i put the truck back to the company terminal..good ol days

Ya I forgot about the sweet spot part. Also back in the 80's didn't the general public do a lot of complaining about how slow the trucks were traveling. Used to get truck news delivered to the house but subscription expired, will have to start picking it up.
As ar as safety is concerned, Why arn't they governing the motor coaches(buses), they're going faster than any one on the road. The truck I drive is already governed but that was by company choice, I just don't aggree with how they're dictating it into law.

LOL your not kidding about the buses...hell they may have some drivers that have one year behind the wheel going 70 or 75 mph on wet or icy pavement and guess what???? whamo!!!!! These dam companies realy should govern their buses too because the drivers hold a CDL in their wallet like rest of us AND just like the other post on here the guys are saying the same thing about putting speed limiters on greyhounds and moving human cargo..VERY risky i must say. ..i have never seen a bus being pulled over by the DOT or the police ..have you???? yup i agree with you 1-800-big truck with your statement
