Freightliners.... mostly Detroit's some Mercedes Benz and few Cats.

Kenworth..... Mostly Cats, Some Cummins

Peterbilt..... Same as KW

Paccar (makers of Pete's and KW's) got in a pi**in match with Detroit a few years ago and now you can't get a Detroit motor in a Paccar product.

Mind you since Detroit Diesel got taken over by M/Benz, I think there product is rubbish at least out here in New Zealand, I personally like a good old Cummins. Cats are good engines if you get a good one, get a bad one & you will for ever be paying for repairs.
I read recently that Cat are about to stop making engines for road use & concentrate on there earth moving machines only, out here in NZ I would say the majority of KW's are Cummins powered.

kiwiray down under.

Does Detroit Diesel have a pro-link plus software program anywhere that just focuses on speed settings and limits, EEPROM vehicle/engine calibrations, ecm and so on? Where can I get this and how much? I found a place that has it in a bundle for $768.00. I was wondering if there was program just for what I explained above for less? Detroit Diesel DDEC I,II is what the pro-link plus program is called. Thanks.

Default Diesel Power

The engine market will change next year. Caterpillar will not supply highway engines in 2010 due to the strict standards. 2009 will be the final production year for Caterpillar. They will concentrate on off highway equipment. I don't think that many customers will order Caterpillar power this year because they will soon be obsolete.
I think many customers that ran Caterpillar will probably go to Cummins.
Paccar will offer their own engine. (KW & Pete) I don't know anything about the engine or how long it will take for it to be accepted. Cummins will be an option but as was stated before KW & Pete haven't offered Detroit for quite a while.
Detroit Diesel, Freightliner, Western Star & Mercedes are owned by the same company. Detroit has a new engine, built on a new platform, DD13 & DD15. This will replace the Series 60 & MBE 4000.
Volvo won't install Detroit engines because they are competitors. Volvo will offer Cummins power as well as their own engines.
Sterling will cease production in 2009. The Canadian plant will close. Freightliners will be built in Mexico.
International also has their own engine now but will also offer Cummins power.
The emission laws have changed trucking forever.
