Question Pro-Link vs. others

If I buy the Pro-Link diagnostic tool kit, is there and option to just get the Detroit Diesel DDEC I,II only because that is all my friend needs to finish completing his operation. I saw the Pro-Link Detroit Diesel DDEC I,II on sale on a website while I was helping him look for some other options. In it contains the MPI-201007 DDEC I&II Cartridge which I'm guessing is only for the I, II. It includes things such as Monitor real-time ECU inout and output status, display data parameters and calues ain English or Metric, create custom data lists, read and clear diagnostic fault codes, reference ECU serial number, part number and revision number, view EEPROM vehicle engine calibrations and configure with password, and also others such as what he needs most speed settings and limits, idle shutdown options and many more. He also wants to know if he sets the speed limit settings, does he have to up the pto torque also? Thanks.

Is there a program my friend could get just for the ecm so he can turn it up and down as he pleases? He has a Freightliner, I a Peterbilt, if he gets this program will it do both of them? Thanks.

Default Pro Link

Pro Link is the diagnostic tool that Detroit/Mercedes supports. The first Series 60 started as DDEC I. The software changed for each change in the model. The software level now is DDEC 6. The last year for non EGR (2002) was DDEC IV. ,2003-2006 (EGR engines) is DDEC V & regeneration engines, (2007 to present is DDEC VI.
You will need to have software for the correct model.
Pro Link cartridges are interchangeable in the Pro Link hand held reader. Each level of the card or cartridge is stamped on the back.
Each card has the options for speed, idle shutdown, progressive shift, etc. There are many more options in the programming, Tire revs per mile, differential ratio, PTO options, etc. Different applications have different pin assignments also.
ECMs are usually password protected. If you have the password there are many settings that can be changed. Dealers have access to passwords that were installed for each engine when the engine was put in service or if the engine changed owners & the new owner wanted a different password.
A dealer will usually change the settings for the registered owner if they don't exceed emission standards for the specific year model.
There is bootleg software in the field & people that will change the settings for a price even though it is illegal. I think that you asked bacically the same question on the thread about the most common engines in trucks. I hope this answers your question.
