Question Help!Someone for Job asking for w2's RED FLAG!

Has anyone ever been ask for W2 forms to get a Company JOB? They say they own there equipment and it is company job but are asking for our w2's? They claim since they don't belong to a place they can get pass Job information without paying money to get it ! So work history is used off of W2's?
Sounds odd?

May be a new technique to confirm one ACTUALLY worked where they state they have or as you figure, they're wanting information supplied.

Sounds to me like a suspect idea and warrants more investigation into the actions of the company in question.

I worked for Schneider National for 6 months and for some stupid reason, probably since I didnt go to Green Bay for orientation, they tell everyone I have never worked there. But I have w-2's and 6 months worth of paycheck stubs with an employee number to prove it.

there are some reasons for this.

1) is used to determine a base pay they can offer you.

2) is to verify anything you say YOU GOT PAID.

3) to verify you actually worked SOMEPLACE.

so although this may sound odd...........it can and does happen.

I NEVER discuss my wages from former employers with a new employer and I never list them on my ap. I dont see where its any of their business. If I have enough experience, I should be paid appropriately...

Having worked for some LTL freight companies that no longer exist, if they require proof of employment, W-2's are the only way to get it.

DO TAKE CARE to make sure the company is legit before showing them some of your personal info on a W-2 namley your SSN.

If these people are to cheap to pay for your DAC like everyone else, that might be the red flag worth noticing. If, however, your DAC is suspected to be "inaccurate" or not flattering, might be the best company to get on with???? If you can deal with a penny pincher company and it's quirks.
