Default just a small question guys

Im trying to find a OTR job or regional job that will allow me to take my GF with me...is there a trucking place that just hires you ..you do classroom time and then you get a truck and can head out otr? or do you always have to go out with a trainer for weeks or a month before you get your own truck?

btw first post yay :)

I have 2 1/2 years working at Sygma doing layovers ...it sucked

You might find a small outfit willing to take a chance. But right now good driving jobs are at a premium and companies can be very selective. Plus you have the insurance factor, they may not allow a passenger. The companies that do allow passengers usually limit them to spouses, children and sometimes brothers/sisters. Have you tried posting your resume, this site has been advertising free resume posting?

Trust me and the first reply on here. You do not want to go without first having a trainer. I have 14 years OTR experience and I am still learning all the time. Classroom time and schools do nothing but teach you to pass the CDL test. There is a world of situations they do nothing to prepare you for. The first time you go into New York City or Jersey, or Chicago off the interstate you'll fully appreciate the little nuggets and tidbits time with a solid trainer give you. As for a passenger, almost all companies allow immediate family. Many allow extended family. Although many set limits on how long or what time of year or ages for young children. Just coming out of school though, don't expect real liberal passenger policies in most jobs. It's something you'll have to hunt around a bit for. Good luck in finding what your looking for! If you look hard enough in the trucking industry you're bound to find something to fit your wants and desires. It's what you make it. :)

Most companies that allow passengers usually make you buy an insurance policy for them for a few bucks a month.

I think if you have 14-15 years of solid driving experience, you ought to be past the trainer stage... I love being roadtested by super-truckers with barely 2 years experience themselves (my stint at Schneider comes to mind with a chuckle...) when I have 5+ times the experience he has. And people wonder why I have such a bad attitude...
