A message to all drivers...
I never thought I'd end up in this industry, but I'm here..for almost 2 years now. I'm the guy professional drivers love to hate...I wear a tie every day to work. Long story short, I was in college, got a job in sales selling a product that is only for professional drivers. To be honest (since I'm drunk) I was always taught that truck drivers were criminals, rapists, or worse. Since I took my sales job, I have learned that drivers are some of the most pleasant people out there. Everyday I meet an interesting client, and the next day someone comes in with a better story who is a more interesting than the day before. I've had lunch with a few, gone out for drinks with a few, even prayed with a few. And, suffice to say, you guys don't fit the stereotype. That's not to say that everyday I don't meet one jerk. But it's just like any other profession: there's assholes in every group.
Long story short, I've had a good run for the past 2 years, and truck drivers have paid my bills. They've put food on my table, they've even paid for dinner so I could take a young lady out. This is all indirect, of course, but drivers and their profession have provided a steady paycheck. Long story short, my company (to remain unnamed) has filed chapter 11. I don't see the traffic in the fuel stops anymore, and freight is way down. I definitely don't make the sales I used to. I just wanted to say that, in this harsh economy, I thank you guys for what you indirectly provided me with these past 2 years. I've enjoyed a fun, laid-back, and interesting working relationship with you. And although we are 2 different appearances (shirt and tie/jeans and t-shirt), you guys are my brothers and I've enjoyed intereacting with all of you. And anyone who runs their mouth about the typical truck driver stereotype, I'll stick up for you, even when I'm not part of the industry. I can't say my job or the company I work for, but I can say that in this economic climate, its certain I'm going to lose my job. I can also say that I thank every one of you that I've interacted with. I've had fun, learned a lot, and we've both benefitted from meeting each other. Good luck and drive safe!
