Default Just needing some opinions

I've been in home improvement and new construction for 25 years mostly doing vinyl siding and replacement windows.
Business has completely stopped on new construction and is real slow on remodels.
Is it a bad time to get into otr trucking?
What's the best way to get cdl's and some better paying company's to drive for?

Thanks in advance, Mike

Do you like being away from home 4-6 weeks at a time? Do you like trolling around at filthy truck stops? Do you like extremely low pay for the amount of hours you work? Would you mind sitting around for 34 over the weekend hours in some far away place waiting for a load and not getting paid for your time? Would you mind having a completely screwed up sleeping pattern? Do you like gaining weight due to poor food choice, eating habits?

I'd look into a different trade. OTR trucking is for the birds.

right now isn't the best of times ANY PLACE.

Schnieder closed their trucking school.

i heard Swift isn't hiring students anymore.

there are way too many drivers out of work right now.

your chances of getting a job right away, are slim to none, then if you do not get a job right away, you will forget all the things you learned, so that when YOU DO GET HIRED, you might have to go back to school for a refresher course, then you stand the chance of losing that job to another driver. its a no win situation for wannabe's right now.

best i can say is, do as you please, but do not say no one warned you of the potential hardships you will face.

I often wish I never began Trucking in the driving arena and just stayed in the Construction field in road or bridge building, or at least I would have been somewhere related by now.
Oh, by the way, WELCOME TO TRUCKINGBOARDS!!

With the present and yet to be offered economy, Trucking is really like any other "profession" in that there are opportunities however companies are being very selective because they can be what with all the prospects (unemployed with/without experience) available.
Your field of expertise is no different anymore than mine, therefore we're both riding/floating in the sinking boat in the quagmire of possibilities.

For you and everyone else:
I Hope The BEst uv WELLness 2-u-n-urs-n ALL adventures!!
