I say sit it out for a while. My brother quit his job a few months back and was asking about getting back in with my company but I advised him to wait until Spring as well. Our solo drivers are all screaming about low miles and low paychecks every week. Even the teams are turning fewer miles and making less money.
Much better to be at home through the winter when freight is traditionally dead anyway and try to conserve as much money as you can.
The fact is you will spend MORE on the road than you will being at home eating your own groceries and sleeping in your own bed.
The federal government is extending unemployment benefits as well so take advantage of the situation and take an extended vacation (for the next 2 to 3 months anyway).
As for your creditors... Send em a token payment each month (like 10 bucks or so) and tell 'em your out of work. Keep up on your house payments if at all possible.
Got to prioritize in the current situation.
Housing is number 1.
Food is number 2.
Health insurance and medicine is 3.
Transportation would be 4.
All unsecured debt and loans are WAY down the list.
Dont worry about the bad credit marks either. Practically everyone is going to be taking major hits to their credit scores.
