Default Hiring in this Economy?

I'm sure this has been asked before on here so sorry for the repeat.

Are any companies hiring new drivers in this economy? I'm located in the south and have lost my my job. From reading on here, trucking sucks but it can't be any worse than being in Iraq for a year so please no negative responses about the industry. Just curious if Swift and the other bigger companies are still hiring? Thanks!

Yea that's right go knock on the door at the nearest ltl carrier. Start work Monday. They have a shortage of drivers with their 3% average turnover compaired to a truckload carrier that average's 121%. When your driving down the road making over $80,000 with that ltl carrier running legal you'll be thinking why didn't I do this years ago.

Yeah trucking does suck big time right now but it will turn around. On the radio show Landline Now, they said that in the not so distant future (cannot remember exactly what year) they predict a significant shortage of truck drivers due to the fact that there are a high number of drivers that will be reaching retirement age in the near furture. All hope is not lost and might not be a bad idea to get into iit now??
