Default CPM question

Try here as I am not having luck in the newbie section. I ask this because i have always been paid hourly or percentage. When a big company like celadon or conway adverises .35 cents per mile is it generally all dispatched miles or only loaded miles? If it is only loaded do you get anything for dead heading between loads?

Most of the bigger companies pay loaded and unloaded miles, but pay Rand McNally miles where they kind of screw you because they figure the mileage by the shortest route, not the actual route you have to take. Some companies like Roehl pay practical miles where they actually figure in truck routes and bypasses around cities, and a very few pay actual hub miles, the actual miles you traveled.

Dot Foods, by the way, pays hub miles.

My company pays PC Miler miles (I believe). I figure I lose about 5% of my miles per week. Doesn't sound like much, but over the course of a year, I figure it's about $1500+ bucks. I can't complain as a newbie, at least I'm workin', and gettin' really good miles and loads. Better than some of the "experienced" guys. Of course, I'm on time, don't complain about loads, and it's yes sir; no sir; thank you!

I've noticed a trend towards the big companies paying practical miles and detention time after 2 hours. Generally in TL you get paid the same loaded or empty. There are some companies that have different mileage rates depending on the length of haul (longer pays less). Some companies also pay less for dedicated runs.
