Default AZ Newbie ? truck broker/loads

I am new to this site and I really enjoy reading the forums and surprised on how much people are willing to help newbies like me. Here goes my plan as others have posted. I plan on purchasing a truck and began pulling local loads or to states that surround Arizona. I have little expierence but my friend who is willing to help me start this adventure drove for autozone from many years. I am not looking to get rich it would be more to fulfill my love for big rigs. my question is how difficult would it be to get loads and do the load boards work or are they like junk mail we get everyday or should I look for a broker and who in Phoenix? I am looking at purchasing a freightliner cl120, cash money from a friend who is retiring. Any advised would be helpful wheter bad or good I'll take it all. Its how we learn. Thank You all

If you are just starting out with freight the way it is i would recommend maybe leasing on to a company for a while. Its pretty hard for a one man show to make it off of load boards and brokers rite now. Dont get me wrong there is good freight on load boards sometimes but as slow as it is rite now its pretty hard to make a living off them. Just my .02 GOOD LUCK with whatever you do

Are these other related costs of purchasing a truck included in the purchase cost or have these even been considered:
IFTA, Tag, Registration, INSURANCE, Fuel, Maintenance, other fees and costs!!
If one spends all of ones money to purchase a truck in the hopes of generating money out of the hole, one needs to spend a wee bit more time investigating ones ideas BEFORE SIGNING ANYTHING.
Automatic or Manual shift?

The "little experience" part is a biggee and you really do not want to go to California.

Just some ideas about costs unless you're starting with a large sum.

Personally I would use the money for something a lot more constructive than trying to rescue an Elephant from a quagmire.

I would like to thank you for your comments, really helps, I am not doing it alone so money has been set aside. I met with business owners and attorneys from a program here in Phoenix, not sure if it is nationwide " score " They have you give your plan or idea and then the pull out the red pen like must english teachers do. Boy do they let you have it and they also give you home work and research work to learn about the business you are thinkin of doing. Great program and its free. So yes some of my questions were for my research. I understand that I will be lucky to break even, starting out. I guess the only ting I have going is that my wife is a nurse and makes decent money to help me support my crazy idea. Again I thank both of you and I will probably have more questions. Why should I stay out of California other than I already hate California.

My first question is what are you going to haul? Reefer, van, flatbed, stepdeck, etc. My second is why not go out and try to sell freight for yourself. If a guy has a load leaving every Monday, try to get that load. Just keep in mind if you did that, you might have to deadhead back. Brokers are not all bad, but some are. Best of luck to you.
