Default Please someone clarify 60/70 hr differences!!

Ok a couple questions:
1) How as a driver am i able to qualify as a 70 hr driver?
-been told my company has to operate 7 days a week??

2). Ok lets say i qualify for the 70 hr rule but I myself only work 5 days...can I legally work 70 hrs in that 5 day period as long as I dont drive over 11 hrs a day or remain on duty for more than 14?? Esentially it would be working 5 14 hr days in a row. Does the DOT allow for this? Then over the weekend would be a restart and the 70 would reset???

Any clarity would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi there. ok. If the company operates 7 days a week then you can use the 70 hr rule. For your second question. As long as you only drive your 11 and take a 10 hour rest before your next driving session, you can work s long as you want, just can't drive again if u used 11 hours or it's over 14 hours since your last break. Now saying that, yes you can 5 14 hour days. Totally legal. Just can not do anything until you are off enough time to get hours back. In that case it would be the 34 hour reset. If you need me to clarify this answer more just let me know. I am pretty good at the HOS rules.

Some schools don't do a good job when it comes to HOS rules and explaining the log books.

You ask your company which one they use. Most OTR companies use 70 hours. Its not quite as important now because of the 34 hour restart. Before that was enacted, you had to shorten your hours each day or take a few days off until you regained enough hours to work again...

Well our company is trying to change us to the 70 hr rule as we have picked up a couple runs that load on the weekend. Driving school may have covered it but it was a long time ago and I have always operated under 60 hr rule. I was pretty sure everything was basically the same just wasnt sure because when you think about it it makes no sense. With safety being such a big issue these days and these laws being in place to limit the hours we can work to a safe level, amazes me that there is a way to work 14 hrs a day back to back mon-fri....kinda crazy
