Default Have You Ever Fallen For a Scam While On the Road?

Ever been scammed in a truckstop, rest area, dock, etc...?

I stopped in Richmond, VA at a Hardy's off I-95 that had truck parking. A woman with 2 small children pulled up next to me in a car. She got out holding an official looking paper and explained she just came from the doctor and needed to get some medicine for her kid but she was short of cash. Mr "Nice Guy" here quickly handed her $20 and she was off like the wind.
The following day I was talking to my mom on the phone when she brought up a scam she heard about on the news about the very thing that happened to me. Oh well, I figure if I was scammed the guilt is on the woman who scammed me and in the big picture of things I still get "credit" for helping someone.

I've had a few try to scam me! Up the street is a 7-11 and a couple of times guys come up and give me the old story about needing gas money or bus money, now if they dressed the part instead of looking homeless I might part with a couple of bucks.

I think every driver in a lease truck is a driver who has fallen for a scam while on the road.

But, I gave a buck to a girl of about 18-20 once who approached with the story of needing gas money. The first thing she said when she came up to my truck was, "I'm not a prostitute, me and my friends need some gas money." I look over and see other girls in a car by the pumps.

I could have almost completely believed her story but an innocent girl needing gas money probably wouldn't know to say that she's not prostituting as her introductory statement.

Van pulls up
"I've got this sound system left over from a big job......"

and then...
We used to do all the Woolworth stores in Manhattan
You would pull up, double park and unload on the street
One of our drivers pulled up and a guy with a hand truck meets him on the side walk
The driver gives him the freight
He signs for it
Driver drives away
guess what...

and who can forget the phone salesman on the Cross Bronx expressway

I had a delivery in Chicago one morning and before anyone showed up at the delivery address I had a drugged-out homeless guy trying to convince me he was the lumper for the place. I didn't fall for it but I thought it was funny.
