Default effects of a non fault accident on finding a new job

Hello. Monday I was involved in a minor fender bender on west bound 94 in michigan. Some guy in a bravada must have dosed off (what he told me) and swerved over and hit my truck in the right lane. He was totally honest to the police officer and admited that he hit me (thank god) and he got a ticket and I got nothing. However, I know this will show up on my driving record which has been clean for 6 years, and although it will show as not my fault it will still be there. If I want to find a new job will this be considered by potential employers even though it wasnt my fault?

I don't think it will show up if you didn't get ticket. My husb had an incident, that involved a woman stopping right in front of him! She got the ticket, he was told to go on... Nothing ever showed up on his dac or driving record.

it really shouldn't affect you too much, at least not from the police reports and DMV reports. it'll still show up for whatever lenght of time your state keeps it there.

however, as we all know, our employer can still find us guilty if they wanted to.

all you can do right now is list the accident any time you fill out an application. since no charges are against you, there should be no problem.

what i WOULD DO TOO is get a copy of that accident and keep it for yourself. that way, if a new (potential) employer doesn't believe your story, you'll have the official police report to back you up.?

make sure you keep that police report, till the time comes that accident is taken off your record.

I had to call the insurance company once to prove to another company that I wasn't at fault. It never says whether or not it was your fault. Get copies of any paperwork.

ok thanks guys. The police officer gave me a card with the accident report number on it. I will obtain a copy of it for myself. I am hoping it will be no big deal. I mean there wasnt even a scratch on my truck, the idiot ended up just hitting a drive tire. I saw him coming at the last second in my mirror and was able to move over toward the shoulder a bit which I think really softened the blow. It ripped his passenger side mirror off, caved in his front fender and but black rubber wipe all the way down the side of his vehicle. Screwed his up pretty good and the only evidence on my truck was one drive tire looked rubbed, like if I had gotten to close to a curb, that was it.

I don't know if all drivers licencse printouts are the same. Mine just had some code that translated to accident. It didn't have any points next to it, but the company I applied at knew exactly what it was. It made it a real pain since the company I worked for before went bankrupt. I had a guy side swipe me and I told my company what happened. They didn't even file a claim against his insurance but for some reason they put the accident on my record. I was livid. I think the damage was only $400. I should have never said anything, but I was afraid of someone seeing the big scratch on the fairing.
