My company wants me to haul a load from davison,mi to grand junction,co. Of course they dont know the chain laws....my boss's answer was well its only in the mountains not really sure exactly where he thinks i am going but pretty sure through the Rockies but. Anyway I am curious how late into the season you have to have tire chains in your possesion and for how many tires??

In CA you only have to have them when the DOT CHP says you have to carry them and they often set up checkpoints on major mountain freeways below the snow line to ask. Depends on the state as to how many tires you have to chain buts its usually 6 to 8 tires out here depending on vehicle combo and conditions. I'd find out the laws in CO before you get out there. Google CDOT and its all right there. Grand Junction is on the far western side of the state. Nice town last time I was through there.

Can't speak for CO, but in CA they send you back down until chain controls are lifted or you get some chains and go on back up the hill. California is a bit overzealous with chain control. I have had to slap them only to get five miles down the road when a Caltrans vehichle or a Care Bear PA's everyone that chain control is lifted.

Are you planning on coming through Utah on this trip or do you have another route in mind? If you come through Utah on US 6 the law is through March 31st. Not sure about CO. I live in Utah and I know that is a major route to Grand Junction, so any questions let me know.
