PC Miler is the best when it come to truck routes and such. I'm not sure if they have a laptop application, but I have seen a GPS unit with their programming in it.

Just remember... a program is only as good as the operator. I've been down roads that don't even show up on a GPS. I've also been instructed to go down roads that don't exist. You still have to know how to read a map.

PS-Welcome to truckingboards.

Welcome to Truckingboards! Check out the premium membership option, you'll love it.

As far as GPS goes, there are a few out there that are supposed to be specific to big trucks, but none of them are foolproof and none of them will ever replace your Motor Carrier's Atlas. I used the CoPilot truck program that is supposed to keep you on truck-specific routes and help you avoid low clearances, but it didn't work perfectly.

I have the Delorme Street Atlas 2009 program on my laptop. It's not truck-specific but when it's combined with the atlas, directions from the company and input from shippers and receivers, it works great. It only cost me $75 and there was a $25 rebate bringing the net cost to $50. It also came with a DVD database of phone listings, both business and residential. It works great to get information and phone numbers of businesses where I'm delivering.

I've heard good things about the Teletype GPS but I've never tried it myself.

Just remember that no GPS is going to replace your paper maps or your cell phone. It's just another tool for your truck.

Try doing a GOOGLE search. I have seen some sites that have add-ons for Streets and Trips. How accurate they are, I have know idea though.
