Question Best OTR companies?

I am an old LTL driver who is now forced to go OTR.
Can anyone tell me what are the better OTR / Regional carriers out there? I am based out of South GA.

sorry to hear you are being "forced" into OTR driving. i too was considering that move, but i'm holding off, as i DO NOT want that type of driving job agian.

however, we all do things we dont like, just to provide for our family.

as for the "better OTR" companies, and in your particular area, all i come up with is a list of companies, but i have no idea as to how good they are. IF you have room to park a big rig on your property, then some of the choices you "MIGHT HAVE" would be Schnieder, JB Hunt, US Express, Prime, Werner, but then too, many of those companies have either laid off or are just NOT hiring right now due to the economy.

you "MIGHT" also have nearby you, UPS, or even FedEx in which you could end up doing a "line haul" type of job which is primarily nights, and be home daily. BUT then again, the nasty economy affects them too.

here is a "short list" of companies located in Georgia:

If you have to go OTR, you are better off with a local company that only serves local customers. When they send you out, they will be looking for a load to get you home so you can haul another local customer's load.

The big carriers have customers all over the place, so getting you home is not their priority.

I did the local carrier thing after CF closed up. I did 1 to 5 day trips and off on the weekends. Had to work twice as hard for half the money, but I was treated well. Looks like I may have to do this again. (YRC)
