I went to an orientation about 6 years ago in Morris, Il (Costco acct). Had a bad vibe, didn't like the equipment but the real part that bothered me was the terminal manager's answer to everything was "thats trucking". The ad promised home every-other day, the term mgr changed that to "well if you come back and you have time to run we'll send you out again, even if you only have a 1/2 hr. You can go to the truckstop and sleep."
It was a slip-seat operation which I can handle in a day cab situation but I'm not gonna spend every trip cleaning somebody else's funk before I can go to sleep in the bunk.
The truck we took our roadtest in was one of those slip-seat sleepers and it was a pig stye. Needless to say I didn't go back. Ironicly, when I landed my present job I've found 2 other drivers that also felt the same bad vibe at NFI. One guy left during lunch at orientation and the other did as I did, just never went back. The recruiter was a nice woman named Barb, by the way.
