Default Offered a job with NFI Dekalb, IL

This is for a local job.
Seems as the recruiter or whoever can't wait to get me there. I filled an app out online because I got layed off Friday. She called me today and wants me at thier Bolingbrook terminal tomorrow. to do orientation, drug test/physical and a test drive.

She told me the job was from Dekalb to Kenosha (90 miles) drop n hook paying -$86.40 each run. --- 2 runs a night.

She said the hours are 6pm to 6am. Seems to me I can do that in about 8 or 8 1/2 hours.
12 hours for those runs works out to be about $14 hr.

Anybody know anything about them or that terminal.

.48 a mile or about $45K a year isn't too bad on the surface. If it takes 12 hours, you would have some serious waiting time somewhere.

National Freight has a very bad reputation on the East Coast. Here in Allentown, PA they have a running ad for drivers in the paper for years now. They have a significant amount of turnover. There has to be something wrong when you have a home daily carrier that claims the $1k a week average pay and can't keep drivers. They also supposidly have a no-touch freight policy so go figure. The equipment seems new and clean though I'll say that.

I know their drivers have issues with simple things like signs warning trucks what you are not supposed to be doing.

I went to an orientation about 6 years ago in Morris, Il (Costco acct). Had a bad vibe, didn't like the equipment but the real part that bothered me was the terminal manager's answer to everything was "thats trucking". The ad promised home every-other day, the term mgr changed that to "well if you come back and you have time to run we'll send you out again, even if you only have a 1/2 hr. You can go to the truckstop and sleep."
It was a slip-seat operation which I can handle in a day cab situation but I'm not gonna spend every trip cleaning somebody else's funk before I can go to sleep in the bunk.
The truck we took our roadtest in was one of those slip-seat sleepers and it was a pig stye. Needless to say I didn't go back. Ironicly, when I landed my present job I've found 2 other drivers that also felt the same bad vibe at NFI. One guy left during lunch at orientation and the other did as I did, just never went back. The recruiter was a nice woman named Barb, by the way.
