Default Cattle killed on I-57 in Illinois?

I was southbound on I-57 this morning and from the 57/64 split there were about 12 dead cattle scattered over about a 10 mile stretch along I-57 south. There aren't any pastures nearby and no sign that the cattle were struck by vehicles. My best guess is that a bullwagon was losing it's load as it traveled down 57 last night/this morning. Has anyone heard any news about this?

I checked the Mt Vernon paper, nothing mentioned.

My sister lives down near Mt. Vernon and sent me this story. She didn't source it so I can't quote the source...

Escaped cows cause several wrecks
4/5/09 @ 9:30:51 am

A cattle truck overturned on its side early Saturday morning, freeing 30 cows that caused four more accidents before either being shot or corralled. The wreck happened on the Interstate 64 exit ramp onto Route 37 on the south side of Mt. Vernon. State Police say the driver, 61-year-old Benny Chambless of Mt. Vernon, apparently entered the off ramp at too great of speed causing the load to shift and the truck to overturn on the drivers side. Chambless was helped out of the truck by Jefferson Rural Firemen. He was taken to Crossroads Hospital in Mt. Vernon for treatment. Fire officials say several of the accidents that followed on Interstate 64 with vehicles hitting cows also resulted in injuries, but no further details are available from State Police. The truck was hauling a total of 64 cattle when it overturned. The series of wrecks on Interstate 64 ended when a semi couldn't ran into the rear of a van stopped in traffic. Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputies and Mt. Vernon City Firefighters were also called to assist. Chambless was ticketed for improper lane usage.
