Lightbulb Uh Oh...lanes for trucks!!!

Ohio and Missouri and Illinois?? Do you think we will have our own lanes? What happens if a car comes in to our lane and causes an accident? They weren't suppossed to be there. Less Lawsuits?? Or more??Ohio, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana consider separate lanes for trucks on Interstate 70 - Metro - cleveland.com

As far as enforcement, I don't think it would cause any more problems than car pool only lanes.
I think it is an excellent idea, however would we be confined to that lane or could a fast truck move to the neighboring lane to pass? Maybe I should read the whole article?
I think the toll would have a negative impact on the O/Os though, just one more thing cutting into their bottom line.

The article says it will have two lanes in each direction for trucks. I wouldn't want to live along US 36, US 40 and many other east/west highways when the toll booths go up. I'm sure they'll try to pass laws like NY is trying to force the trucks off of all the other roads.

Lightbulb Great Debate

In the article a motorist that does not drive truck agrees that more lanes would be a hinderance.

The public has proven countless times that when there are more Lanes available for Traffic, there are more Wrecks.
Less Lanes used to equal less Wrecks (with less Vehicles) yet nowadays with these incompetent drivers and the amounts of Vehicles it really matters not how many Lanes are designated for what Vehicles.

The idea works well in Theory yet so does everything else.

I think it is a terrible idea which can only hurt the trucking industry, which is already grossly overtaxed.
If not tolls, there will surely be heavy additional highway use taxes to fund these pork barrel projects.
And I wouldn't count on having two lanes at all times either. At least not during the construction phase, which could last for decades.
Imagine the slow truck leadind a ten mile convoy of pissed off truckers for miles and miles. That is sure to promote a safe and harmonious atmosphere.
