After driving under E.U. rules and regulations, obtaining a North American CDL won't be a problem(at least passing the exam)although getting a haz-mat endorsement(vital for getting a decent job in the US or Canada)I'm not sure if a recent immigrant can clear the background check, plus most reputable companies are'nt hiring due to economic conditions. But most European drivers would find driving in the US to be a vacation no tachographs, less highway congestion, more liberal hours of service regulations(you can drive on sundays here)no E.U. regulations, and even as many complaints as you see here about our federal and state D.O.T.our inspectors are mere slackers compared to their European counterparts such as VOSA in the U.K.and you'd really enjoy the higher speed limits after years of driving trucks around 50 mph(80kph)even at 65mph or higher depending on the company and where they operate you might get a nosebleed, good luck at home and welcome to our forums!
