I have driven a 10 wheeler though not as much as freight. Here are the things I think could help.

1. When you are dumping and the load doesn't come out well, (wet or packed) remember that you center of gravity is WAY off and it is really easy to tip when bed is raised. Be careful on uneven ground. If I needed a tailgate bang, I would lower it just a hair because the first time your steers get air born really wakes you up.

2. Watch the clutch and brakes. You will be hauling very heavy loads so use all the gears. I seen alot of hotshots start in 3rd or 4th in a 13 speed under load. Could smell the clutch a mile away. If hauling really heavy loads you can acctually out pull the clutch. Stopping distance also is greater than with a van.

3. Use the tarp. Please. I may be behind you.

4. Be prepare to run a shovel or a broom. You will find alot of ads for construction drivers all say "must be ready to work" or some such thing. I did what was asked but wasn't ever really asked much. Have a good pair of gloves. I did say no when there was a busted sewer pipe that needed patching, but did sweep often.

hope this helps. Been a long time since I did that. If I think of somemore I'll be back. Oh yeah, the road test is just that. One guy was impressed that I knew where reverse was on a 10 speed so it could be that easy. Don't sweat it.

You have a class A license so why be concerned about a class B road test since everything UNDER a class A should be a picnic unless of course you're just out of a driving school.
MOST, not all Dump Truck (Bucket Truck) companies WANT EXPERIENCE regardless and do not consider OTR experience.
It's like Military verses Civilian jobs, experience garnered in the Military is rarely accepted in the Civilian side or at least that's the way it used to be as some ex Military have been recognized for their Duty experience.

What Comftblynumb said and PAY ATTENTION to overhead clearances as well as terrain and surroundings.
DO NOT do this:
Did you forget to do something after tipping your truck?? • videosift.com
