Default Freightliner auto transmission.

Hello,

Has anyone driven Truck with automatic trany?

I'm looking at this used truck with auto shift and I would like to know if its good choice?

I have no experience with auto transmission so any feedback from this board will be greatly appreciated.

Regards

I drove a Century class with an autoshift with US Xpress. It was the clutchless model and it worked fine. I don't remember any real problems with it but I never got stuck in the snow or mud either. I drive an autoshift now and other than occasional bouts where it can't seem to find a gear and the fact that you can't shift quickly between drive and reverse, it's been fine. It's definitely nice when you're in heavy traffic, starting and stopping constantly.

I agree 100% the only good truck auto boxes are in Iveco's which I don't think you get, & the other is Volvo's I shift I don't know if you get that one either, but really mate if I was you I would grab a good ole Road Ranger 18 speed

kiwiray down under.

i too drove a freightshaker with the "automated shift" eaton trans..........(it had a clutch)

i HATED the damned thing..

you need to check the WARRANTY on the entire rig BEFORE you buy it.

you could of course opt for an ordinary conversion kit to put it back to a manual shift. if you are buying this from a dealer. if you are buying this from a private owner, you may not get him to reduce his price by much.

personally........until the "automated shift" transmissions are perfected.........i'd stay away from them. they upshift too darn fast, and seemingly take forever to downshift.

Depends entirely upon YEAR of manufacture as some years there were faulty sensors installed and other years these sensors didn't fail quickly.
I drove a 2001 Freightshaker Century with a ten speed auto shift (also had a clutch pedal) and had ZERO problems.
My employer also had and drove a 2003 Freightshaker Columbia and had to have a few of the sensors on the Trans replaced within a year of purchase.

Personally were I to buy a truck I would SPECIFY a 10 or 13 speed and forget the auto shift garbage.
Buses have automatic trannies and that's where those trannies belong.
