Has anybody noticed how the NYPD constantly targets us truck drivers all the time? Last week I got one ticket in Brooklyn, NY for supposedly being off of the truck route but my delivery was right up the street. Go figure that one out! The next two tickets I got was for being off of the truck route and again my delivery was right up the street. Then to add insult to injury he gave me a ticket for disobeying a sign. This sucks! Got any suggestions on how to get these cops to lay off??? I'm truly exasperated from all of this...and now I have to get a lawyer. Has anybody else been through this and could you advise me on what to do and what the outcome may be? I'm worried. This is my livelihood!
Thanks,
Debi |

Debi | Get a low life, (lawyer), and fight it, cops everywhere will do as they please, I have respect for them as I wouldn't want their job, however, I'm sure their bosses are telling them to step up enforcement and giving them goals due to the state of our economy, everyone has their hand out, and they want paid now, not later!!!!
Thing is our pay doesn't increace, but goods and services do..oh and fines, traffic and otherwise, be it county, city, state, or federal, the appetite for money is insatiable, you and me have to foot the bill, and there ain't a thing we can do about it, we have no say whatsoever!!! IT SUCKS!!!! |

I would expect the police all over to increase citations to offset reduced taxes due to the economy so they can line their pockets. I have a police scanner and the "traffic" on the local swine-flu band is way up compared to last year this time. As to dealing with the donut-munchers you have to watch what you say, sign the ticket, clear out fast and fight them in court because they OWN the streets these days.

I would be asking my employer for help. If they directed you to a place off of the truck route then you are doing it on their behalf. I know most truck drivers are victimized because employers will threaten that "if you don't do it then we'll find someone that will" but it's worth making the case to your employer that they should step up to provide help. If they won't help then you can tell them to have the customer meet you along the truck route nearest to their location for their delivery.
It's obvious that Bloomberg has told his goons to shake down the deep pockets and you are not done with this type of hassle.

Thanks,
Debi | The cops probably know that the chances of you fighting these citations in court are slim to none. They are counting on you to just plead "no contest", and mail them a check. That's the main reason they pick on us truck drivers, local people will fight this stuff in court, chances are we won't.

| | www.nyc.gov/trucks Study this site and it becomes clear that it is impossible to legally deliver anywhere off the main routes. It is also illegal to bring a 53' trailer into the five boroughs off of the interstate system.(55 feet total length for combination. 73,280 lbs gross weight. Max width 96 inches.) This is common knowledge to law enforcement and trucking companies alike. However, it is also common knowledge that freight must be delivered. It comes down to who is looking the other way and when. My advice is to not work for anybody that would send you in there. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
