Transport Workers ID (TWIC)

I've been out of work for 4 months now, andyway I was thinking to myself ."How can I make myself more marketable?"
Here's what I did, and not everyone has to do this now. Here goes I went online to http://twicprogram.tsa.dhs.gov
This ID is now required at ALL ocean ports and soon ALL rails . It's NOT employer specific. So that right there is a good thing. At my last job I had a airport TSA ID badge which I had to turn in when I left . These are good for 5years.
The web site says it takes 6-8 weeks to go thru the system.I got mine in 3 weeks.
If you already have the Haz Endorsement on your CDL you're halfway there . There is a cost $132.50. Yes I know it's steep. But get with your tax person the cost of your CDL, and this as well as other costs can be tax deductable .
For those looking for a new job this might be just the ticket.
I'm not sure but if you have the TWIC ID card , you might not have to pay the extra for finger printing for the Haz Endorsement . I'm due to renew in Dec. I'm kind of hoping not to have to put out more money .

The Haz-Mat endorsement is a SEPARATE entity not aligned with any other endorsement and when it expires one has to go through all the same crap and pay the fees incorporated.
Having the endorsement only reduces the TWIC fee by a few clams as stated on the TWIC site.

Wishfully thinking, But it didn't reduce the cost for me . But I'm telling you I hope that when I go to renew , I can show my TWIC and save some clams there !
